Meet Your Finance Coach:

Katharine

I am a Certified YNAB Coach*, and was one of the first outside North America. I can work with your to transform your financial situation.

I coach people from all walks of life, from all over the world. If you want to transform your life by bringing integrity to your finances, have them work for you, and for money to finally be fun… then I am your person.

Financial wellness has a huge impact our health, our happiness and our resilience. I can work with you to become debt free, save for your future and gain some peace of mind. You’ll also be able to spend happily, with no guilt, know that you’ve budgeted the money for that particular item.

I have a background in theatre so I've got lots of understanding of freelancers, people in the creative industries, and those on fluctuating incomes.

I am based in Scotland, UK. For every coaching session I do, I plant a tree in the Caledonian Forest through Trees for Life, as part of their mission to rewild the Scottish Highlands.

I’m not sure what a traditional journey into financial coaching is, but I know that mine isn’t it! I was introduced to YNAB in 2016, and it quickly changed my life and my personal finances. I was advised to make use of all the different YNAB resources I could, including the free classes, the blog and the podcasts. It wasn’t long before I found out about the Profit First method, which did the same transformation for my theatre business as YNAB had for my personal finances. In fact, the two things work beautifully together so I do the business accounts for my sole trader business on YNAB. You don’t spend long learning about personal finance before you encounter the Ramsey Method and Ramit Sethi’s work, and I use a version of that for my long-term personal financial and investing plan.

I’ve been involved in campaigning for financial reform in the UK theatre industry through various organisations for the past ten years. Since 2017, I’ve been teaching emerging theatre professionals about personal and professional finance, and so when YNAB reached out to me to ask me if I was interested in becoming a Certified Coach, I jumped at the chance. It really is a privilege to work with each client, and I find that watching each person grow in confidence and agility about managing their money, using budgeting software, and planning for the future is one of the best experiences I can think of.

Financial Coaching can help you:

  • achieve financial stability

  • get out of debt

  • use budgeting as a tool for financial freedom

  • budget to purchase your first home

  • achieve longer-term financial goals, including saving for retirement

  • budget for a small business

  • budget when you have an irregular income

  • budget for low incomes

  • budget as an arts or charity worker

  • set up your first budget in YNAB

I coach using the YNAB budgeting system, which is a paid service. (The YNAB subscription is $100/£80 per year. An average user saves $600/£485 in their first two months, and £6000/£4845 in their first year of using YNAB.) The app works on your computer, as well as on your phone/device. If you’re not yet a YNAB user, there is a free 34 day trial as standard, and that can be extended to a 94 day free trial if you are working with me as a coach.

I am familiar with Profit First and Ramsey Solutions approaches to budgeting, as well as with Ramit Sethi’s approach to investing and conscious spending plans. If those are part of your personal finance philosophy, YNAB works well with both methods, and I can support you in that.
