What happens when you work on your family budget

Working with a client to get their family budget in order is a lovely thing.

Christmas (or the big holidays in other faiths) stop being a financial stress and spending for them becomes fun, because they are budgeted for and funded in advance.

The exhaust coming off the car stops being an emergency and instead becomes simply an inconvenience.

That feeling of ‘oh no, and now this…’ occurs less and less, and eventually disappears altogether.

The theme is that everything gets simpler, and happier. Think of that feeling after a big declutter. It feels like that.

Yet getting your family budget in order isn’t just about clearing out the 'cluttered' spending that doesn't work for you. It’s also about making sure to include important things that get pushed aside. And for many parents, especially, in my experience, for Mums, it is about making sure that your needs actually get included, rather than becoming secondary items, or being ignored until you finally press the f**k it button and have a big splurge.

There’s a different energy that comes through into your whole life when you’ve got your financial house in order. It literally feels different. There’s a spaciousness and a peacefulness to it, but also, there’s joy.

It's the joy of everything being intentional. You're using your money to tell your story. To build the life you want to live.
